Kostanay - the Kazakhstan city located in a steppe zone. Today the city - an administrative center of the Kostanay region. At the majority of people the Kostanay region associates with virgin lands. But also hundred years ago the city already was large shopping center at the crossroads Asia and Russia. One of English travelers at the beginning of the 20th century called it in the diary "the second Chicago" though there were here ordinary-looking wooden houses, the dust soared in air, and streets were covered with sand. And today area - the largest supplier of grain crops, and Kostanay is well-known for the processing and food industry. Костанай - the producer of confectionery, canned meat, footwear and textiles. As the area is rich with the wood and ore, the wood-processing and rudoobogatitelny industry is developed. The special role in development of the region is played by opening of iron-ore field. It was given the name "Kostanayskoye", the content of iron in a field makes 55-60%. Baytursynov, Kostanaysky Social and Technical University work. The social sphere of the city is presented by 51 schools. In two higher education institutions and eight branches of various higher education institutions of the city 14 thousand students are trained. In Kostanaye theaters of the Russian and Kazakh drama, philharmonic hall, the local history museum, 15 libraries, palaces of culture and club establishments work.
