Amber Museum was established in Kaliningrad because nearby, in the village of Amber, is the largest (of the explored) field Baltic gem - more than 90% of world reserves. In the ten years since 1969 was a process of restoration of historical and architectural complex. The first phase of the Amber Museum was opened on 29 December 1979 in the status of a branch of the Kaliningrad Regional History and Art Museum.
